Top Gear?

While clearing out an old box file I came across these car advertisements in an old copy of NOW magazine. This was a short lived news magazine backed by Sir James Goldsmith, inveterate enemy of PRIVATE EYE. It only lasted a short time whereas Private Eye is now over 50 years old.

These advertisements for British Leyland cars date from 1981 and the main selling point seems to be cheapness. This is hardly surprising given their poor reputation for quality and reliability. They may break down, they may leak but they are cheap!!
