A concrete love affair

Craig Goch Dam

The beautiful 1904 curve of the Craig Goch Dam, the oldest and the top dam in a five dam system forming the Elan Valley Reservoirs in Powys, Wales.

It was another superb day of exploration and photography with Kieran Chauhan.
We started early and arrived back late, the day went so fast. We are both fully in awe of these amazing structures and the engineering prowess that built them. Simply amazing that all the dams were built solely to supply the city of Birmingham with clean, abundant water over 70 miles away. The water arrives at the city via an aqueduct without pumps simply using gravity to transverse the distance. Reminds me how very vast a city's catchment can be.

Image captured on a Canon 6D kindly loaned to me by Andrew French. A fantastic camera, very much enjoyed using it today!
