Lookering

Today was my turn to do the pony 'lookering' - not a word many people are familiar with. Lookering is the job of checking on other people's livestock when its not on their land. In this case we have to find and count the ponies, checking for ailments, inspect the water troughs and gates and if necessary alert the owner. We currently have 15 Exmoor ponies from the Sussex Pony Grazing and Conservation Trust grazing on the 500 acre reserve and someone has to check them every day. Today it was reasonably quick as I found all 15 grazing together within an hour of setting off.
