Thorny Survivor

A number of hedges around West Kilbride have suffered under the winter storms, and survive as isolated plants, like this one near Portencross. It was nearly dark, but I liked how what little light there was filled the dents left by cattle hooves. I set my little Panasonic DMC-TZ40 at ISO 800 and an f number of 3.3 to cope with the severe lack of light, but still had to use a slow shutter speed of 1/6 second, which I managed by leaning the camera on a fence post.
