The red canoe

Boats heading up the Gorge usually choose to go through the hump on The Selkirk Trestle. That hump over there on the left. Seems the red canoe has chosen the eye of the needle. He was pounding along like a mad thing!

Most floating vessels fit through the hump. But if you've got a mast you'll need to phone ahead. Two guys from the City will meet you there. They'll hand crank the planks up for you. But seeing as the bridge is actually owned by the Province of BC, two other guys will be assigned to stand by either side of the gap to record the proceedings. And yet another two guys will be stationed in a boat below, for safety sake. So, one or more masts and you'll need to book in at least a week prior to chugging the remaining two kilometers up the Gorge.

And to think some people sail solo! How on earth do they manage?!

(gloomy day, not a whisp of wind ... and damp?)
