Mill Leat

Having Richard Arkwright Junior living in your town you can be sure to see a few mill leats and water wheels around.
This one on Buxton road as you enter Bakewell doesn't look much like a mill leat anymore.
It's now become an excellent wild life conservation area with water voles present.
Today the town council met the the Peak Park conservationists as there's been a few complaints from visitors as to its unruly look.
It's a difficult balancing act as water voles are now a protected species and any work carried out that would endanger their habitat has to be adhered to.
So, it seems that there is going to be a management strategy put in place that will placate visitors, residents and voles!
