Reporting Scotland.

As I got ready for work this morning, the breakfast television news was awash with live reports from Edinburgh Sheriff Court in connection with the tragic and for now somewhat mysterious case of Mikaeel Kular, and the appearance of his mother here following her arrest in connection with his murder.

As one might expect with a criminal case that has in turn bewildered, scared, shocked and angered many across the local communities of Edinburgh, it has attracted national media interest and caused Chambers Street to be a focus for satellite TV vans beaming images of a dark and deserted Chambers Street hours before her arraignment in camera.

So I stopped off en route to work out of curiosity, and watched the reporters and camera crews climb out of their vehicles on cue into the chilly morning air to rehearse their words before they beam their images to London and to Salford.

As I left, I heard one of the journalists ask his team if his tie was straight, and I had a brief image of vultures circling. There's enough sensational speculation in the red tops; let's allow the law take its course, to ascertain the facts and particulars of this case before we as a society make our judgements.
