The Manchester Wheel...

The Manchester Wheel used to be in Exchange Square where it did, to be honest, crowd the space. It was taken down in 2012 to make way for the London Olympic celebrations. It reappeared just before New Year in its new home in Piccadilly Gardens. This is my attempt at an arty shot through the bare winter branches of the trees that surround the gardens. You can also see the statue of Robert Peel, local Victorian boy made good from Bury. He created the modern police force in the UK which is why policemen here are sometimes called 'bobbies' or 'peelers.' He was also Prime Minister of the UK twice, between 1834 and 1835 and, again, between 1841 and 1846....
