Cisterna

I said that I'd blip our cisterna today so here it is, with even more water in after lots more rain today. We have two cisternas, this new one which holds about 24,000 litres, and the original one which holds about 3,500 litres, and rain falling onto the house and garage roofs runs via guttering and pipes into them.

The system is the same as people living on the land have used for years, as blipped here.

To take this I stood on the top of the cisterna and opened the hatch so that you can see the water inside... the blue and white floating thing holds chlorine tablets to keep the water clean. Obviously the hatch is kept closed to keep muck out! This water supplies all our needs and is used as is for washing up, showering, flushing the toilet etc., but the water we drink is purified by a reverse osmosis filter sited under the kitchen sink.
