Sand and rock pattern

I went up to Evie to the sperm whale carcase that's been on the shore there for some weeks, to see if any 'Nearctic' gulls were feeding there. Unfortunately, there weren't. Nearctic gulls come from near the Arctic (!) but there haven't been that many here this winter. That may suggest that the winter in their homelands is as mild as it is here, so they haven't had to move South. I just checked the term and it seems that it covers most of North America including the highlands of Mexico. I don't know how that works! Birds I saw: purple sandpipers, a flock of c200 curlew, 14 ravens, c50 long-tailed ducks etc.
I liked the pattern of the sand in this shot.
