Stars?

The sky was really clear and smogless tonight, so I could see plenty of stars in spite of the light pollution. There's something about stars that make me feel rather childlike. Maybe it's their age, or how far away they are, or their awesome multitudinousness — 'awesome' there not being used in its slang sense, as in 'what an awesome game!'.

Since I didn't have the equipment to capture the night sky (fast lens and tripod), and I hadn't taken any good photos, I decided to embark on a silly experiment at home instead. I pasted some star stickers on my window and fiddled around for a long while with ambient lighting from my laptop and iPad, before realising I had to use flash. Et voilà — my own Orion!

Next time my students ask where all the silver and gold stars went — those colours are most popular — I can say I used them to make a constellation!
