The Inland Waterways is the life for me...

After taking David to college and a bit of shopping to get the Haggis, neeps and tatties for tomorrow we noticed that the swing bridge was open and a large boat was going through. We parked and then walked down to the lochs where it was just entering the first loch. We watched as one set of gates were closed and the water entered to bring the two levels to the same height.
The boat was the BAYARD1 owned by Fred.Olsen windcarrier. It is a high speed catamaran used to transport goods and personnel to and from offshore wind farms. This was the first of four new service crew boats built in Norway and named on 17th Nov. 2011. The Bayard name has been used several times by the company on boats powered by sails, steam and diesel and even on a ferry.
It can take 12 customers and the lounge did look very comfortable and has a tv/video and playstation. Being a catamaran it is also more stable on rough seas.
The Bayard 1 had been moored on the River Ness at the harbour and was now heading down the Caledonian canal to Fort William.
It's a quicker and safer journey than having to go round the top of Scotland and I wonder if they might be singing this song as they travel through.
