The Lamplighter!

This brass plaque is under the lamppost outside No 17 Heriot Row Edinburgh, the former home of Robert Louis Stevenson, a wee bit hard to read cos of all the brasso ( other metal cleaners are available!) in the letters!
It's the last verse of one of my favourite poems.....The Lamplighter (the Leerie in Scots)

For we are very lucky with a lamp before the door
And Leerie comes to light it as he lights so many more,
And Oh as you hurry by with ladder and with light
Oh Leerie see a little child and nod to him tonight!

To be found in RLS's delightful book of poems " A Child's Garden of verses"

Chilly day, not much sunshine! A dentist day again! Only a few more Mondays to go to Mr D!
