Mission San Luis Rey

We visited this mission in the middle of the day...really bad for photography. I found this idyllic scene in the shade and it survived the cut. I did take out some PVC pipe that was showing, facing in the pool.

This mission was founded in 1798 and is still an active catholic parish. It is geographically, the second of 21 established between San Diego and San Francisco, one day's walk apart.

The franciscan friars were chosen by the king to do the colonization of the indigenous tribes and did it pretty well for about 30 years. Then, came the Americans...
