Gurkha

This Nepalese Gurkha of Mongolian descent gently enquired if me and the friend who was dropping me off at King’s Cross were under-cover police. The new (well, since KX reopened) drop-off / pick-up area seemed to be badly signposted and Chris had parked on a bay marked BTP, which stands for British Transport Police. He jokingly asked Chris if he was carrying a weapon at which Chris asserted that the only weapon he was carrying was in his crotch, dirty bugger. After Chris went, I had a chat with the guy. He said the Gurkhas were descended from Mongolia and was keen to emphasise the difference between Nepalese and Mongols, implying that the former were somehow superior to the latter. I asked him what he thought about Joanna Lumley’s campaign to give UK citizenship rights to British army Gurkhas. Naturally, he supported it. But then he launched into a rant about other immigrants in the UK sponging off the state. He said he was 52 and had fought for Britain and was therefore entitled to be here but the others weren’t.
