Rising Water

I stopped off in Tadcaster today to look at the river, as the water had risen quite quickly to within a couple of feet of the flood protection levees...

This is the view from the downstream side of the main road bridge.

In September 2012 the water rose to above the level of the arches and effectively the bridge became a dam. It had to be closed because of fears of structural damage. This meant that the town was cut in two - and the only way across the river was by a temporary footpath over this.
