Burns and Mackintosh in Perfect Harmony

Another busy day getting ready for Friday's Fundraising Concert. This morning we took delivery of a beautiful grand piano, which has been kindly provided by Scottish Opera for the event.

Karen Bryce our lighting guru, is currently in the building setting up the lighting for the concert. Karen also setup the lighting for our 40th anniversary concert in October.

Friday's concert is sure to be a great evening, as we have some of the best Scottish Musicians coming together to celebrate Robert Burns. Opera singers Paul Keohone and Wilma MacDougall, along with violinist Feargus Hetherington and pianist Geoffrey Tanti are collaborating in a one off performance to celebrate the music, words and song of Robert Burns at the iconic Mackintosh Church.

Three of these distinguished musicians have at one time played in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and two have appeared with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Yet the long list of their respective achievements does not stop there. Paul has sung with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, European Chamber Opera and was a finalist in the Mastersingers Wagner Competition while Wilma has performed with Royal Scottish National Orchestra and has recorded and broadcast with BBC Radio and Television. Feargus has toured Europe as a recitalist, and now teaches at the University of St Andrews while Geoffrey won the Hester Dickson, Philip Halstead, and Repetiteur Prizes.

Feargus Hetherington’s who is known for exploring the relationship between Scottish traditional music and the European ‘Classical’ tradition will be making his Mackintosh Church debut performance for this Robert Burns celebration.

Feargus Hetherington said:
“It is fantastic to be part of this celebration of one of the most iconic figures in Scottish history and the beautiful legacy he gave the world. It is made all the more exciting to be collaborating with a group of excellent musicians such as Paul, Wilma, and Geoffrey.”

By collaborating on this Burns night, these top Scot`s musicians will help nurture future musical talent through the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society’s (CRMS) campaign. All the proceeds from the event will go to the on-going development of the Mackintosh Church; this includes the CRMS campaign to develop a new performance space establishing a vibrant new arts centre in a part of Glasgow that is experiencing significant challenges, and creating an easily usable and accessible performance space for artists, musicians and students alike.

We still have tickets available if you would like to support this campaign.
