15 mins after the box office opened
Tickets for the Book Festival went on sale at 9.30....yes 9.30 on a TUESDAY. ie when MOST people are working. Oh, and the website (which had cost 60k) didn't work...at all...all day... Oh and surprise, surfeckinsurprise the phone line was busy ALL day. At 9.45 the queue was half way down Castle Street. At lunchtime it was still as far as Centotre....and of course anything decent was sold out by then.
So although this festival is promoted as being "accessible", it's plainly NOT true. It's accessible if you are not working and have no commitments and you can stand in George Street for hours and hours (or even sit in your silly folding chair). So the whole queue was made up of retired Morningside types. Well I hope they enjoy seeing Andrew Marr et al!
Rant over, and relax.....
