Training Exercise

On a visit to the hugely impressive fire training centre at Cambuslang. Formally known as Uaill, now re-named Clydesmill, it includes purpose built stretches of motorway complete with overheads, dual carriageway, rail track with tunnel and carriages, sewer pipelines, trenches, chemical plant, varieties of domestic buildings and retail and business premises, a collapsed building and even some ships' corridors and gangways.

All of this is to provide training for firefighters in as realistic a setting as possible.

It is fascinating to move around and watch three, four or five separate activities all going on at the same time and as you can see often involving real, not simulated hazards. In one place you can see the many, many different types of scenarios firefighters have to be ready to deal with. Quite extraordinary.
