a door of happiness

Comfort

Few things better represent Chinese familial love than homemade soup. Nowadays, making soup isn't too difficult, with prepackaged sets of ingredients widely available. But it still takes skill, experience, time and effort to choose and buy the right ingredients, prepare them and cook the soup.

One of my favourites is my mother's oxtail and tomato soup (牛尾汤), which I have attempted a few times to recreate with not quite the same result. I know I'm home when I smell and taste that soup.

The soup in this photo was made by the granny in the family I visited today (an uncle's in-laws) and the pinnacle of comfort food.
