On the fiddle!

This gentleman is playing a violinophone or phono fiddle, which apparently is quite difficult to play and in my opinion, very difficult to listen to!
He is usually to be seen in Royal Avenue. I am at a loss to tell the difference between his various melodies as they all sound the same to me. But then I am not schooled in the folk music of the Balkans.
However he always has a pleasant demeanour and this morning he went to great lengths to explain to me that the noise box is made from an old gramophone acoustic head. The vibration from the strings are picked-up on the head and converted to sound waves in the horn. These in turn are hopefully then converted into cash in the donation basket.
