probably vaguely allegorical

Though my office-colleagues seem disappointed by the tramwork-related absence of the van from which they have recently been getting their Friday-morning treat-baps of meat and grease none seemed concerned enough to regard my idea of writing a letter to the Metro asking if any readers have spotted the van in its new location. Perhaps, deep within themselves (specifically on the inner walls of their coronary arteries) they know they're better off without such things. For some months the slow mutation of the roadworks at the west end of Princes Street have made any attempt to move between any of Lothian Road/Princes Street/Shandwick Place/Queensferry Street excitingly variably easy as the crossing-points appear and disappear at various points. The last-chance-until-the-Mound crossing-point between the steps emerging from St Cuthbert's corpse-storage facility and South Charlotte Street had been fairly constant but has been shifted a street eastward since I last used it sometime at the beginning of the month, losing me valuable seconds yesterday when I was walking to another office for a meeting and immediately swivelled left at the top of the steps. I'm curious as to what state everything will be in at the end of the year, presuming it is the intention of the city-bossing-about people to ship a few thousand southerners up to spend the turn of the year trying to work out which clock or countdown to believe and cooing at the fireworks over the castle. In previous years hazards such as easily-climbable traffic-light posts have been secured only to be replaced with new hazards such as sharp bolts protruding from temporary fences and it will be interesting to see what happens to unsuitable footwear when it encounters some tram tracks.
