Oystercatcher and babes

We decided to change scenery today, and walked from Whananaki North to Whananaki South around the peninsula and back again. Fantastic walk over the longest footbridge in the Southern Hemisphere, along the estuary, across the beach with sand dunes and then through forest back to the bridge.

We were lucky enough to see these wee babes, who were protected by this very good mother. She decided to have a bit of a dive bomb at me after I took this shot. We also saw dotterills and their babies, which meant that we avoided the dunes as they aren't the smartest putting the nests straight on the sand.

Swimming and beach a go go still!
