You can see the borders of the National Park clearly on thepicture - below the wall marking the edge of the park every square meter is cultivated, above the line is the last remaining refuge for the mountain gorillas.

The mountain gorillas' habitat stretches across the borders of three countries: Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo and they are threatened on all sides by war, poaching and encroachment by farmers needing land.

It's a difficult situation - the local inhabitants need land to grow food but the gorillas will soon be extinct if their habitat is destroyed. By allowing tourism in the park jobs are created for locals, but too much tourism may tip the balance...
