Walled Garden

One of the fascinating aspects of walking around the Gillies Hill area is to be reminded of what it must have been like when part of it formed the estate of Polmaise Castle. The castle is no longer there, reduced to a pile of rubble in a planned explosion in the 1960s, but some features still remain. This is a corner of the walled garden ,which was created in 1907. It is easy to picture how fine a place this must have been and it covered a quite extensive area. Today though it is terribly overgrown and and only parts of the walls remain.
