Not the whole of the moon

As I came out of the Parliament this evening a thin crescent moon was peeping over the gable of one of the old buildings in the High St. I stopped and took a few pictures but , lacking a tripod and lots of time, couldn't get anything even approximating to how it looked to the naked eye.

So I stepped back and realised the strength of the rest of the scene - the Canongate Wall of the Parliament, the almost empty Royal Mile, the lights and the shadows and (yes) the moon small and high and distant.

It didn't seem such a bad image to take away even if it was second choice and not a whole picture of the moon, to paraphrase a song .
