It was nearly dark at Portencross, and the waves were pounding against a reef close to the shore. I would normally use a high shutter speed to freeze the motion, but the dark conditions didn't allow, In any case, I felt that the drama in the scene was largely due to the foam careering rapidly towards me. I accentuated this by using a slow shutter speed of 1/3 second.
