Chateau de La Hulpe

Or Solvay Castle as it is known now. A 19th century castle, built around 1842 for the Marquis of Béthune in French style. Later sold to business tycoon Ernest Solvay and now belonging to the region of Wallonia.

This morning though cold there was a lovely blue sky and sun, so I decided to finally have a look there. We live in the part of Belgium where the Flemish parts and the Walloon parts meet, this castle is only a 15 minutes drive away but is located within the Walloon part. The park around the castle is always open to the public and is designed beautifully in an English landscape way with lots of water, lawns and meandering paths.

This is the side of the castle with a formal garden with pond and sculptures.
One more picture and a mono version in Blipfolio.
