Bird Notes

When we don’t harvest all of our black walnuts (frightful to crack, but they sure make great cakes), the nuts rotting on the ground over the winter must harbor some interesting insects, as huge flocks of crows come and feast.
Wary, they sit high in the walnut tree and flutter down for their treats, then back up, looking for all the world like lost notes on a convoluted musical staff.
