WHAT THE.......

... hell was that!!??

Saw this Australian King Parrot ,Alisterus scapularis, about to devour a seed from an ornamental pomegranate, across the road this morning.

Was quite exciting as we have only heard them around since the bush fires earlier. They have a distinctive shrill sound, go to the right lower on this link and have a listen.

So far, have only seen them fly through the bush, hence my excitement watching it feed on this seed.

Then like a "thunderbolt" while getting a shot this minor bird decided it wanted a piece of the action. Amazingly the parrot just finish the seed then took off, unfortunately it left out the back of the bush from where I was, so missed it flying. (at this stage... maybe later)

You will see their distinctive red head as adults, (in the link above) and as juveniles they look like this one.
