High Voltage

Back in Istanbul, I passed by this sign on a street under which is a rather powerful electric cable transmitting 154,000 volts (please call before digging). It caused me to wonder how Turkey generates its electricity; according to this government site, about 44% comes from natural gas (imported from Iran, etc) as well as about 27% from coal and lignite. The rest comes from hydro and renewals. Not exactly electrifying.
