Samson's Ribs

The basalt columns of the Giant's Causeway and Fingal's Cave on Staffa are well known but here in Edinburgh we have our own modest examples.

Part of the Arthur's Seat volcanic complex, they are made of Dunsapie basalt, visible from Duddingston Low Road (below the Queen's Drive).

The origin of the name is easy to understand but, to the Flums, following a childhood malapropism, they shall always be known as Nelson's Bones.
