Immigrants 175 years reunion photo shoot.

Our family ancestor J.J. Gallasch and his family arrived on the sailing ship “Catharina” from Hamburg, docking at Port Misery, near Port Adelaide, 175 years ago on January 25th, 1839. The "One and All" invited our family to stage this photo shoot at and on their sailing ship.

Immigrants.

Today, Thursday 6th February at 11AM was a very special family day. We all gathered at the dock on McLaren Wharf at Port Adelaide, South Australia, alongside the restored sailing ship, The One and All. It was to stage a reenactment of the landing of our family from Europe, 175 years and 12 days ago.

Some members of our extended family had dressed specially for the occasion, wearing clothes they had made to represent the period, while others simply dressed up in old Victorian clothes, and carried bags similar to what our ancestors would have brought with them.

On February 23rd, we are having a further family reunion up at Hahndorf, in the Adelaide Hills, where the family originally settled.
If you are interested, you can read more of the family history from my blip of the 174th Reunion, last year.

I have added a photo from today in colour to the Blipfolio here. It shows cousin Terry looking lost, his worldy possessions at his feet, not speaking a word of English, in this terribly hot and barren land.

Postscript: I have since been asked to provide a copy of this photo in colour for a local newspaper and also for the owners of the "One & All".
