Westward Ho!

The vapour trails of two transatlantic jets cross the duck egg blue sky on a calm and mild evening.

All this in total contrast to the nightly TV scenes of flood devastation in Wales and the West Country.

Far from the sea can be an advantage but not often. Statistics tell us that people who live near the sea live longer. Also, opportunities for recreation have an added dimension. Occasionally, as is now, there is a price to pay.

All this will be far from the thoughts of the jet passengers who will now be a half a world away.
