Looking to the future

I had two meetings today to talk about the referendum.

The first was with a group of civil servants in my own department who asked a range of good, searching questions often based on their own experience within government. It was challenging and informative in equal measure.

The second was with a group of 15 A Level Government and Politics Students from Oaklands School in Bethnal Green in London. None had ever been to Scotland before but again there was a high level of intelligent enquiry and some really sharp political queries particularly about the rise of UKIP in England.

Tomorrow I am in my own constituency, at a debate in Oban which will have an audience of senior school pupils and others. I am told it is already oversubscribed.

Contrary to prevailing media wisdom, there is huge level of genuine enquiring engagement and a great deal of positive interest (within and outwith the country) about the issues which will determine what Scotland decides on the 18th of September.
