Cumbernauld Railway Station

This view may not exist for much longer.

Was going into Glasgow today and decided to go by train, rather than bus. The line between Glasgow Queen Street and Cumbernauld is being electrified and, because the pylons and the lines carrying the electric current will be higher than the existing pedestrian footbridge between the platforms, a new footbridge has been built. The existing one, shown in the photo, has now been fenced-off and will soon be demolished.

One of the minor irritations of this change is that, rather than having a footbridge to the Glasgow-bound platform leading directly from the station car-park (as this one does), one now has to walk about 100 metres up a slope, cross the new pedestrian bridge and then walk a further 100 metres back down a path to the platform. I believe it's called progress.
