Community In Action

In this case as opposed to community inaction.

I could have blipped this as part of my Changing Face of the High Street series I suppose.

If you are familiar with Crieff and the Drummond Arms you'll know that the hotel sits slap bang in the middle of the town but has been sitting empty for years. The current owner is a Glasgow Councillor with little interest or concern for Crieff. The neglect of the building has already resulted in the Royal Bank of Scotland closing its branch which was part of the building.

The state of the whole building including the vegetation growing from bits of it has resulted in some wag dubbing it the 'Hanging Gardens of Crieff'.

The RBS has offered their bit of the building to the community at a token price and now there's a plan afoot to register an interest in a Right to Buy under the Land Reform legislation. Their plans can be seen here.
