What would you pack?

Today we have received 3 phone calls from the Country Fire Service and Emergency Services, to leave our home. In other words, be ready to activate our Emergency Bushfire Survival Plan at very short notice.

There is a bush fire burning in the Eastern part of the Belair National Park, about 5 km from our place. The phone calls said that it's burning out of control in all directions, and to activate our bush fire emergency plan now.

It is expected that the winds will pick up this afternoon, meaning a high danger of ember attack.

What I have packed!

Yesterday they announced that it would be a catastrophic fire danger day today, but we were not expecting to hear the fire brigade sirens at 9 am, followed by water bombers overhead.

I have not the slightest doubt that the fire was deliberately lit by some sick person out there. A firebug was caught and charged this week with lighting 7 fires in the last week or so, about 15 miles from here, and I hope this guy is still in custody and not out on bail lighting more fires!

We have had an emergency plan in place for weeks with a number of bags packed with various valuables, backup drives, and items and documents etc that are important to us. Plus the 2 cat cages on the ready of course. The question is, what would you pack if you were in a similar situation, be it fire of flood or earthquake etc?
Let's hope that you never need to make these decisions.

6:15PM: Good news update, the fire has been contained. Thanks for all of your comments of concern, they have been greatly appreciated. We hope that the winds do not cause a flare-up over night.
