Flooding in Jakarta

Very heavy rains soaked Jakarta this morning, so it was no surprise that during our trip north there were flooded streets. Cars were still passing, albeit slowly, and we eventually made our way to Ancol. I made the trip with friends of my parents who live here and their two sons.

We visited Sea World Indonesia, saw a dolphin show, and an animal show (with a sun bear, parrots, otters, ducks, and a hippo). Then we went to lunch at a seafood restaurant on the water called Bandar Jakarta. We picked our seafood (all still alive) and then it was cooked to order. We sampled crab, shrimp, two kinds of fish, calamari, and escargot - though I didn't have any of that. It was all very tasty! The rains started again during our meal, though fortunately we were well covered under a pavilion. After lunch, we visited an outdoor art market, where artists were creating a variety of masterpieces. On our way back through the streets, all the flooding had receded, so the trip was relatively (it's still Jakarta...) smooth sailing.
