Always best to stay close to mum!

200 elephants . . .

. . . well, we didn’t actually count them all, but there were approximately 200 African Elephants down by a waterhole. Young ones were in the water having a great time, splashing and tussling with each other. The adults stood around and watched, occasionally splashing themselves - it was very hot. Some more sauntered in to join the party and a few huge males wandered by and disappeared into the distance. What a sight! We watched for a long, long time, entranced with the whole scene.

We have been to Addo Elephant Park three times now and it has never failed to delight. What we like about it is that, although you can go on a guided safari trip in a jeep or such like, what you can do, and what we do, is set off in your own vehicle and do your own spotting. It might just be a Warthog or a Kudu or a Goshawk or a Zebra, but there is a great feeling of satisfaction at having spotted it and watched it and taken pictures, usually without anyone else around. Just watching these animals in the wild is wonderful. We were happy with our tally of those I have mentioned, plus Meerkats, Dung Beetles, Buzzard, Crane, Red Harte-beest, Jackal . . .

. . . and of course the approximately 200 elephants.

I could have blipped so many photographs, but, as I’m not that sure about the wifi here, I have just quickly added two elephant pictures to Flickr so you have an idea of what the park is like.

We are now back in Port Elizabeth, staying right beside the sea.
