On your doorstep.

Occasionally you can live in an area and still be surprised at what is on your doorstep. This happened today when I decided to re-visit one of my favourite places, Shoreham Airport, a wonderful art deco building just outside Brighton. Interestingly there has been an airport on this site since 1910 but the first commercial flights to Jersey and Europe commenced in the 1930s. The restaurant still serves wonderful coffee, cakes and hot food and on a warm day there is nothing nicer than sitting at a table almost on the runway and watching the small planes taking off and landing.
However, that was not my surprise. I decided to stop at Shoreham village on the way home from the airport and was amazed at its beauty and tranquility. There is a beautiful Norman church hidden away in the pedestrianised area surrounded by a crescent of white Georgian houses. It was like an oasis in the middle of an industrial landscape. The image was taken off the small harbour.
