The River Piddle seen from Wareham's North Walls

There is of course more to this view than just the River Piddle.

On the right (and partly in the shade) are the slopes of the town's North Walls, which date back to Anglo-Saxon times.

The small stream in the middle of the photo is the mill stream serving North Mill. The next stretch of water, between precarious banks, is the Piddle. Following the route of the Piddle you will come to a brick bridge, and a small brick house with a hipped tile roof immediately to its right. This is North Mill. The little mill stream flows immediately to its right.

The large expanse of water beyond the Piddle is covering old water meadows which function as a flood plain. There has been relatively little rain during the past few days, and the water levels are dropping. Last week the Piddle and its flood plain were a continuous expanse of water.

North Mill's garden is still completely flooded, but water is no longer flowing into the house.
