Huxter Row

I always though these cobbles crossing Union Street in front of the Town House, were a reasonably elegant traffic calming measure. Instead I read recently they mark the entrance to Huxter Row, an old Aberdeen street dating back to at least 1440.

The street was demolished in 1867. Prior to its demolition it had been a popular little trade centre and included the Lemon Tree Hotel. The Lemon Tree name still exists as a music venue a few hundred yards away.

The day dawned bright and sunny, but clouds appeared by midday. In the afternoon the rain arrived, very heavy rain with quite a strong wind. Lights are flickering from time to time. Hopefully we are not going to have a power cut. Better hurry to post my Blip.
