Cold in Glen Moriston

This was our coldest day at work this year. We were working on hillside on the north side of Glen Moriston. Even in summer this area of elevated moorland is rough, tussocky and riven with deep boggy ditches. Today on top of this there was a foot of snow. Every step was an effort and every now and again you would inadvertently stumble upon one of the snow filled ditches. We had a small batch of measurements to take at the extreme upper end of this site. The measurements themselves took about 45 minutes, the approach and departure each consumed an hour. This was supposed to be our quick first thing job before the day started in anger.
When this image was taken (R setting up the RTK base station) it was actually fine but later the wind got up and it started throwing down horrible wet snow. You turned in to a walking snowman in a few minutes if you didn’t shake it off. Trying to pack up at night the snow got everywhere, in to kit boxes, lunch boxes, rucksacks and the simple snap shut of a box was so difficult with frozen digits.
You can see some more from our day here: Snowy Glen Moriston

We are working in the south for the rest of the week now.
