Ripon Cathedral

Day 3

Founded in 672 by Saint Wilfred. A beautiful place, with an interesting blend of the old and modern inside. We went down the narrow passageway into the crypt, and stopped for a few moments for the thoughtful Mid-day Prayers. Carvings in the choir are said to have inspired Lewis Carroll in his writing of Alice in Wonderland. We received a warm welcome, and I would recommend a visit. I do like the St George's flag flying high against the blue sky.

We wandered around the old town, sampled a Yorkshire Tea shop, and walked along the river and canal. The river is high, running fast. I certainly wouldn't have crossed at any of fords.

(Backblipped on Thursday 13 Feb. Yorkshire adventure starts here.)
