Diagrams and descriptions

This was just one of the activities on today's CPD day, the first in a series of 6 days of a brand new national programme that's being run by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics. I drove to the far side of Taunton via the M5 (and heavy snow) and caught glimpses of the flooding on the Levels on the way - a longish journey but well worth it.

Day 1 focused on numbers, then we did some tasters from each of the next 4 days, which will cover statistics, algebra, geometry and trigonometry. (Trig? Yikes!)

This activity involved drawing diagrams to match the descriptions on the cards, then seeing if another group could correctly interpret our diagrams. This was typical of the whole day - lots of activities involving collaboration that we could adapt for our own learners. I hope the other days will be like this! The lunch was good too :-)

I have some homework to do before Day 2 (in just under 2 weeks).
