Pole Vault

Always a favorite event at the alternative Olympics is the pole vault. For many years, the East Germans dominated the event, but since the demise of the Berlin wall, interest in the tricky skill has waned.

However, self-made entrepreneur millionaire, Alfonse Von Kneelicker, ardent supporter of the games, posted a generous reward of one million Euros, to be awarded to a German polevault gold medalist. Thousands of students the length and breadth of the nation took up the challenge.

The Olympic place went to Felix Reinholt, whose father was a celebrated pole vaulter, escaping from East Germany in 1986. Here is Felix demonstrating perfect technique on his way to gold, which he dedicated to his proud father.
