Paris Fence Reflected

Taken on the way to the Mémorial de la Shoah, in the Marais, for an exhibition of photographs of Jewish ghettos in Poland, mostly from 1940-44. The Mémorial is a combined library and museum, with a wall in its courtyard displaying the names of all the Jews deported from France to the death camps.

The photographs of life in the ghettos were taken both by Jews, many clandestinely, and by Germans--the latter both officially for propaganda purposes and unofficially by the photographers acting without approval. Many are heartrending, especially of families being separated for deportation. As always, our visit was a very emotional experience.

I hadn't thought of it until just now, but this reflection of a playground fence not far from the Mémorial at least sugggests the far more draconic ghetto enclosures that oppressed the Jews.

Edit: Last year I did a proper Valentine blip :)
