Gravensteen, Gent

I visited Gent today with some friends, including blip's own fimclauchlan (see more of her stuff here: http://www.blipfoto.com/fimclauchlan). It was a beautiful day despite forecasts of torrential rain which thankfully never materialised.

It was hard to choose today's blip as there I encountered so many cool spots and shots to showcase this cool city. I love this picture because of the reflection, although I wish I'd managed to catch it when the canal waters were completely still. That was never going to happen though, as a family of ducks was happily paddling about and sending ripples up and down the canal. Oh well.

So this is Gravensteen - a 12th century castle. It's actually the 'new' castle - the previous incarnation was a 9th century wooden castle erected on the same spot. In addition to having a moat, this place also has a torture chamber. Very Game of Thrones. We enjoyed it, and Gent, a lot.
