Rain

Mamallapuran.

Well after the utter madness of yesterday, a Hindu festival and a Sunday crazed levels of madness....today calmed down. Up at six to miss a a vacant sunsrise down at the shore temple before it got busy, thinking that yesterday it had looked like an ant swarm...today was murky, heavy light and the temple pretty well deserted...and then at about 0730 the heavens opened..and remained that way for two hours. Actually I had he temple mostly to myself....a couple of hardy souls passed under brollies, glimpsed, and then made a sensible retreat. I waited the rain out, figuring it'd be pointless to attempt my room....quite absurd and lovely to be sat there...

The photo is near the shore temple, a row of stalls which leads down to the beach...

The place had a hill which is like a miniature slice of hampi, very odd, very unexpected:-)
And a day spent wandering around looking at temples and rock carvings: a man wresting an aggressive goat by it's horns; battling monkeys rolling around a hill temple....

And looking for the next journey again....Pondicherry or puri, that is the question....
